Autumn Promises

from Follow the Falcon by Fay Brotherhood

/

about

A time about the turning of the wheel between Autumn equinox and Samhain. A time of balance, ending and renewal.

lyrics

His death we mourn and honour his parting,
But his flame still here remains,
His crown worn yellow by sycamore,
His cape worn red by the apple bough,

And in his dying rays the woods are golden,
My feet sink deep within these jewels,
But the mother comes swift to the throne now,
And the dark of the year brings its chill,

I saw the last swallow leave today,
And the field fare came then to the ploughlands,
As copper leaves, flutter from dark boughs,
And the frost tells us time now for sleep

As the dark Samhain night once again now upon us,
In darkness the wheel turns the year,
We honour our loved ones life partings,
And the trees and the year and our pasts

The fire burns higher beneath the bright starlight,
With each passing spirit who comes,
Relinquish our weapons to the fire,
To begin in the circle anew,

I saw the last swallow leave today,
And the field fare came then to the ploughlands,
As copper leaves, flutter from dark boughs,
And the frost tells us time now for sleep.

The time is urgent now,
For all who are denizen to earth,
To make precious the gifts of the golden and prepare for the cold hand of night,
As the sparrows dance in the hawthorn,
In dispute in a dance for a seed,
And the fox watches now for the sickly,
And the ones who fall foul to the cold.

I saw the last swallow leave today,
And the field fare came then to the ploughlands,
Autumns copper leaves, flutter from dark boughs,
And the frost tells us time now for sleep.

I saw the last swallow leave today,
And the field fare came then to the farmland,
With a pheasant in hand dressed in autumns bright flame,
Autumn bares naught but wonder for me.
